What is a lampwork bead? TOP
A lampwork bead is simply a bead that has been made through the use of a flame torch. Long pieces of glass (glass rods) are melted down and then shaped upon a thin metal rod (mandrel) which enables the bead to have the hole through its centre. As the glass melts under the heat of the torch it becomes molten (not dissimiliar to the texture of golden syrup) and thus it becomes possible to manipulate and shape. This enables us to make an endless variety of bead shapes and designs to suit your personal taste. How do Vitrospective beads differ from lampwork beads available in shops? TOP
Most lampwork beads that are available in retail bead shops or internet beads stores are imported from Asia. Due to poor quality glass, mass production and inadequate cleaning, these imported beads cannot offer the same unique and fine quality that we offer here at Vitrospective. Remember, glass bead making is an artform! We spend time and love creating our unique designs. We use Italian Moretti or Vetrofond glass and each and every bead is kiln annealed and cleaned of bead release.
The SRA organisation has been developed to recognise those lampwork artists who demonstrate a dedication to producing high quality beads. To ensure the lampwork beads that you are buying are of the highest quality and made in a fair and safe environment please do buy from an SRA artist.
